Participants will understand effective leadership at the school and system level by exploring OECD reports, international frameworks, and research from a wide variety of sources, including Leithwood, Hattie, Glaze, Sharratt, Hargreaves and Katz.

PART 1 – INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL SYSTEM LEADERSHIP PROGRAM
MODULE 1: LEADERSHIP FOR SYSTEM IMPROVEMENT
Instructor: Paul Tufts
A demonstrated leader with 34 years of service in the education sector, Paul is committed to leading with integrity and modeling a balanced approach to life while serving and inspiring others to realize their full potential.
Currently, Paul is the Principal of Rosedale Academy – an innovative Toronto-based international school that develops and delivers the Ontario secondary school curriculum to Canadian students (online) and to Chinese students (in partnership with schools in China.) Looking to expand, Rosedale is actively pursuing other global opportunities.
In November 2016, Paul completed a two-year term working as an Education Advisor for a private education service provider in Malaysia. As a member of the advisory team leading the implementation of the Malaysian government’s blueprint for school transformation, his responsibilities included: developing a team of education partners to work effectively within the schools; providing consulting services to school leaders and teachers to improve school standards; and serving as a coach and mentor to school leaders and teachers to develop their practices, skills and knowledge of effective pedagogy.
Prior to his international experience, Paul worked for 31 years with a large school board in Ontario. His roles included teacher, vice-principal and principal in the secondary panel, as well as Superintendent of Education for the final six years, bridging the elementary and secondary panels. Within these various roles, Paul has worked in rural and urban areas, and in schools of all sizes.

Keynote Speaker: Simon Breakspear
Dr Simon Breakspear is known internationally for helping educational leaders navigate disruptive change, develop innovation capabilities and drive continuous improvement for better learning.
Simon is the Executive Director of Learn Labs, an education research and advisory agency that works globally to apply research to practice. He is also the founder of Agile Schools and Research Fellow of the Asia Pacific Centre for Leadership and Change at The Education University of Hong Kong.
Simon holds Bachelors degrees in Psychology and Teaching, a Masters of International and Comparative Education from the University of Oxford and a PhD in education from the University of Cambridge. Simon began his work in education as a high school teacher in Sydney.
